The process for obtaining an IR2 visa involves several important steps. Here’s what you need to do:

File the Petition (Form I-130): You, the parent, will file Form I-130, Petition for Alien Relative, with USCIS, which creates the relationship to your child.

Affidavit of Support (Form I-864): You must show that you can financially support the child in the U.S.

USCIS Approval: Once approved, the case is forwarded to the National Visa Center (NVC).

Visa Application: Once a case has been processed by the NVC, the prospective petitioners will be instructed to apply for the IR2 visa by submitting additional documentation and paying fees. 

Medical Examination: The child has to undergo a medical exam by an approved physician

Interview: Your child will attend a visa interview at the US embassy or consulate in their home country. During this interview they will have to show proof of child-parent relationship and will be asked questions about their background.

Upon Approval: If all goes well, your child will be issued an IR2 visa to enter the U.S. as a permanent resident. They will get their green card when they arrive.
